Hans COLLAERT I (Brussels 1525 or 1530 - Antwerp 1580) “the parable of the wise and foolish Virgins (Matthew 25.1-13)” Original monogrammed plate engraving in the lower right corner “HCF”, from a subject by Ambrosius Francken , included in the collection entitled "Theatrum Biblicum, hoc est, Historiae sacrae veteris et novi testamenti tabulis aeneis expressae" (seventeenth-century version of Gerard de Jode's "Thesaurus Novi Testamenti ..."), published in Amsterdam by Jansz Claes Visscher between 1639 and 1674. Nice copy printed on thin laid paper bearing the "Amsterdam Arms" (Churchill 1 and following), typical of 17th-century Dutch paper production, with large margins beyond the imprint of the plate, small foxing points at the edges and the trace of a central vertical fold but overall in excellent condition. Bibliography The New Hollstein "The Collaert Dynasty" Amsterdam 2005 No. 295. Measurements in mm: 223 x 282
